Government Threatens to Penalize Jeeps

The government has threatened to impose penalties against pubic transport groups that will impose higher minimum fares without it's approval. PCO Sec. Coloma Jr. issued the warning after the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO) reportedly intends to implement a Php 0.50 increase in minimum fare even without the the approval of Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB). The group led by Efren de Luma reportedly claimed that LTFRB Chairman Ginez failed to address the concerns after the agency declined it's petition for a provisional fare hike. The LTFRB earlier junked the petition of several jeepney operators for a Php 0.50 provisional hike in the minimum fare hike due to lack of merit. The board on the other hand is still reviewing the petition to raise jeepney minimum fare from Php 8 to Php 10 for the first 4 km.
