The government weather bureau warned of possible flash floods and landslides over some areas in the Visayas and Mindanao triggered by a Low Pressure Area (LPA) that is moving east of the country Saturday. However, the LPA has a minimal chance of intensifying into a tropical depression, as of Saturday morning, because of the strong North East Monsoon wind flow or Hanging Amihan according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA). The LPA was upgraded into a tropical depression by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) last Saturday morning. Should PAG-ASA upgraded the LPA into a tropical depression it will be given a local name of "Agaton", the first tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this year. However, they pointed out that even if it would not intensify into a tropical depression, the weather disturbance is still expected to bring moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Leyte, Negros and Bohol. PAG-ASA warned that the LPA could trigger Flash Floods and Landslides in these areas. PAG-ASA advised small seacrafts and fishing vessels not to venture out in the sea due to the big waves generated by the North East Monsoon.
