A roman catholic nun holds a placard as she takes part in a protest in Manila on 21st of April year 2010. The Philippines is now ranked as the world's 2nd most dangerous place for journalist, the International News Safety Institute (INSI) study showed. INSI's report showed total of 13 journalist died in the Philippines this year 9 of them murdered by unknown assailants while 4 others died while covering the recent Super Typhoon Yolanda disaster. While Philippines shares the same spot with India, the latter has recorded only 7 journalist deaths. A total of 126 journalist and other media workers around the world have died on the job this year, the INSI said. It named Syria as the most dangerous place for journalist for 2 years in a row. J.Alwyn Alburo, Vice Chairperson of the National Union of Journalist of the Philippines (NUJP) has condemned the spate of killings in the country calling for a government firm action to end the culture of impunity. He also said the latest report is no longer surprising but still hard to take given that the Philippines is a democratic country that should protect members of the 4th state.
