The UN Sec. Gen. Ban Ki Moon yesterday pledged the commitment of UN to fully support the recovery and reconstruction efforts of the Philippine government, saying help will continue from the world body's various humanitarian agencies to restore economic and social conditions in areas devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda last month. Ban has said he was deeply moved and inspired in his visit on Saturday to Tacloban City, which suffers the brunt of the strongest storm to ever touch land killing 6,000 people and leaving millions of homeless. He further noted that people in the hard hit areas who have suffered so much from the Super Typhoon continue to be motivated to start a new life. According to him more than 4 million affected people have now received food assistance. He said 100,000 hygiene kits and 65,000 water kits have been distributed and 30 water treatments are in place. He also reported more than 40,000 children have been screened for acute malnutrition while rice seeds have been distributed to more than 10,000 farming household so far.
