Philippines-Rain from Amihan expected over Northern Luzon

Time to start bringing out those jackets and sweaters as the Northeast Monsoon (Hanging Amihan) had already started to affect the country, state weather forecasters said.

"Colder early morning temperatures in the coming days and months are likely to be felt over Luzon, with chances of light rains especially over the northern and eastern sections," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a statement.

In meteorology, the Amihan is a weather pattern which features less strong, cooler and drier breeze from the Northeast, with prolonged cloudless days. This monsoon forms over Siberia, and Northern China during their winter season and goes down to the sub-tropical region afterward.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said that rain from the Northeast Monsoon is expected over Northern Luzon on Friday.

Pagasa said that Amihan will bring scattered light rain over Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan Valley regions.

It added Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be "partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms."

Meanwhile, Pagasa said moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to north with slight to moderate seas, it added.
