Philippines-The Commission on Elections postpone the October 28 elections in areas affected by earthquake

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will meet Friday afternoon to tackle whether to postpone the October 28 barangay elections in areas affected by Tuesday's magnitude 7.2 quake.

But in radio interviews early Friday, Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. virtually ruled out province-wide postponements of the polls.

"Definitely it will not affect the entire province," he said.

Parts of Central Visayas, particularly Cebu and Bohol, were devastated by Tuesday's magnitude 7.2 quake.

Brillantes cited initial information showing polls in some parts of Bohol may have to be postponed, though they can push through as scheduled in two-thirds of the province.

He also said there is a chance the polls will go on as scheduled in Cebu.

Meanwhile, Brillantes reminded candidates in the Oct. 28 elections to observe the campaign rules at the start of the campaign period Friday
