Bizarre Courses Offered in Universities

Classes are about to resume in a few days. Highschool graduates may find college boring and totally different from highschool. There will be less extra curricular activities and may find the modules more challenging or rather boring with lecturers having a different method of teachings. In college, most professors are lenient and therefore, absences and tardiness are rampant, making the class a little boring with only few students attending. Not to mention the required classes that you need to sit on everyday in order to get the required credits. But not all courses are boring, some universities offer really interesting and strange courses in order to attract the curiosity of the students and gain their interest.

1.Simpsons and Philosophy

The University of California at Berkeley's two-unit course Simpsons and Philosophy is described as a "fairly rigorous" philosophical course that asks weighty questions. This course is based from the long running T.V. Show, the Simpsons.

2. Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame
Started by a sociology professor in the university of South Carolina,who was smitten by Lady Gaga upon watching her in a late night T.V. show. The University is offering a college course on Mother Monster titled Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame.

As he observed Lady Gaga's rise to fame, Professor Deflem become intrigued by what makes a person famous and what it means to be famous in today's society, and that's exactly what the class delves into from a sociological perspective.

3. Joy of Garbage

Santa Clara University offers the joy of garbage class that tackles the science and consequences of what humans consume and discard. Students follow the path of trash as it's treated, burned, dumped, recycled or reused, and they look at the social justice issues that arise, such as how landfills are frequently located in poor neighborhoods. The class also develops sustainable solutions for modern waste problems and even takes field trips to sanitation plants and landfills. This course will benefit the future of the mother earth.

4. Cyberporn and Society

If watching pornography in class may win you a trip to the principal's office, the State University of New York's Cyberporn and Society course has made it a requirement. Undergraduate students in this class survey Internet porn sites and examine issues of obscenity and what causes cultures to define pornography in different ways.

 5. The Science of Harry Potter
A class at Frostburg State University in Maryland, the Science of Harry Potter course, students analyze magic by applying concepts of physics, biology, chemistry and engineering, and they take a look at everything from the latest teleportation research ("apparating") to Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans and the science of taste. Physics professor George R. Plitnik says the class isn't all fun and games; however, he has been known to dress up as Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore.

6. Social Roles

The University of Wisconsin's women's studies course Daytime Serials: Family and Social Roles. Students in this class watch daytime soaps, analyze their themes and study the social impact of gender roles on the family and the workplace.
