Greek athlete Anna Korakaki won the first medal for Greece in the Olympic Games in Rio. Anna Korakaki won Greece's first gold medal of the Rio Olympics on Tuesday, beating her German opponent Monika Karsch by 8 points to six in the women's 25 meter pistol final.
This is the first Olympic Games for the athlete from Drama. Going to Rio prepared was difficult but thanks to her father and coach, Tasos, Korakaki’s patience and discipline was rewarded. She won the bronze medal with a score of 177.7 degrees, the gold medal was won by Mengkxoue Zhang (China) 199.4 (Olympic record) and the silver Vitalina Batsaraskina (Russia) with 197.1.
Earlier on Tuesday, Katerina Nikolaidou and Sofia Asoumanaki qualified for the double sculls final.
Greece also has high hopes for gymnast Lefteris Petrounias and fencer Vaso Vougiouka.
