The Municipality of Thessaloniki city in Greece and NGOs Collaborate to Help Homeless People

The Municipality of Thessaloniki on Wednesday called on Non Government Organizations (NGOs) and charities to form a plan to help the city’s homeless during extreme weather conditions.

After the two deaths due to harsh weather in northern Greece, Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris has called for a plan to protect those most vulnerable. Drug rehabilitation programs OKANA and KETHEA, NGOs Medecins du Monde and Praksis are to create a list of the city’s homeless and seek shelter for them.

The municipality also put three senior citizen centers (KAPI) on the program where NGOs, church groups, charities and individuals can distribute food and clothing.
