How to Avoid Food Poisoning this Holiday Season

Quezon City officials are asking the public to examine the expiry dates of food products sold in the supermarkets and wet markets to avoid food poisoning and other ailments.
In a meeting, Councilors Ranulfo Ludovica, Victor Ferrer Jr., Allan Benedict Reyes, Eufemio Lagumbay and Jaime Borres made the call as stalls, kiosks and other retail and wholesale stores in the city have started selling Holiday Season food items to the public.
Here are a few tips to avoid getting sick during this season of merry-making:
·         Avoid buying expired canned goods, processed meat products and similar items served during the holidays as this would put the health of their families and guests at great risk.
·         Obtain grocery items and food products at reputable supermarkets, groceries and wet markets to ensure these are safe for consumption.
·         Check the expiry dates of the food items.
·         Be suspicious of processed meat like sausages, hams, bacons, hotdogs, longganisa, tocino, tapa and the like which are being sold at highly discounted prices.
·         Do not purchase from obscure and remote groceries and markets selling unlabeled products.
