Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV yesterday admitted he is one of the four
possible presidential contenders of the Nacionalista Party (NP) in the
May 2016 national elections.
Trillanes, who has earlier declared his intention to run for higher
office, said the matter is still being discussed by the NP party, led by
its president, former Senator Manuel “Manny” Villar.
“Apat po yung tinitignan ng Nacionalista Party. Andyan na po si
Sen. Manny Villar, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. (Ferdinand) Bongbong
Marcos, and myself,” Trillanes told reporters in an interview when asked
about the party’s possible standard-bearer in the upcoming national
elections.
But he said he is leaving it to the NP leadership to decide whether to field its own standard bearer in 2016.
While Villar and Marcos have yet to declare their intention to run
for higher public office, Trillanes and Cayetano have publicly announced
their intention to run for president.
