A human rights group with missing relatives and friends is seeking the
intercession of Pope Francis in getting justice for their loved ones.
Aya Santos, secretary general of “Desaparecidos,’’ said the group had
been following the statements of Pope Francis on justice and human
rights and the Pope’s visit to the country is an opportune time to voice
out the injustice and violations of human rights v in the country.
The families of “Desaparecidos” gathered on All Souls’ Day to light
candles and offer prayers to their relatives and friends who were
forcibly taken by state security forces during the martial law days up
to the present.
“Hope springs when on several occasions he made clear his firm stand
to defend human rights and seek social justice. We turn to the Pope for
support because under the current regime, human rights violations
against the people intensify without let up,” she said.
