Forty-one survivors of super typhoon Yolanda from this municipality
now have livelihood after graduating as certified fishing boat makers
from the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in
Leyte yesterday afternoon. And they have a ready order of 1,000 boats to
make for the Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation, Inc.
This was announced by Mayor Leonardo “Sandy” M. Javier Jr. who said
the fishing boat makers will make the 1,000 fishing boats being ordered
by Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation,Inc. through its President
Milet Kilayko.
The fishing boats that will be manufactured by the graduates will be
distributed by the NVC Foundation to the fishermen in Leyte and Samar.
Many fishermen there lost their fishing boats at the height of the super
typhoon that struck last Nov. 8, 2013, Mayor Javier said.
Javier is the national president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP).
Javier said the livelihood opportunity now offers the graduates
stable income as many fishermen in Leyte need fishing boats to replace
the ones they lost to the super typhoon last year.The boats will be made
with fiber glass materials.
The mayor expressed his thanks to the foundation for conducting the
training program to his constituents and for the donation of the fishing
boats to the fishermen from Leyte and Samar.
Leyte TESDA Specialist Vilma Arteche said the national competency
certificates that they issued to the graduates can also be used for
other careers, such as for jobs that are offered abroad.
