The Philippines officially submitted yesterday its voluminous memorandum before the Arbitral Tribunal of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) at the Hague in the Netherlands challenging China's territorial claims over the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea). Malacanang made the same announcement yesterday a day after the government denounced the reported harassment of a Pilipino ship by Chinese Coast Guards in the Ayungin Shoal. PCO Sec. Coloma Jr. maintained that the government will keep it's resolve to pursue peaceful and lawful settlement of the the territorial conflict with China. A Philippine civilian ship manage to evade a Chinese Coast Guard vessel and bring supplies to soldiers assigned in a marooned navy ship at the Ayungin Shoal. The Chinese initially tried to block the Pilipinos from sailing in the area warning them about the consequences of their actions. Asked about PNoy's reaction to the incident Coloma said the Chief Executive and his cabinet to are still reviewing the situation to craft a reasonable response.
