The Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines (UP) has approved the implementation of an August start for the coming 2014-2015 academic calendar. However, the change doesn't include the UP Diliman Campus. Instead of traditionally opening in June, all UP campuses with the exception of Diliman, will start in August for school year 2014-2015. This means the 1st semester will be from August to December, 2nd semester will be from January to May while the summer classes will start from June to July. UP joins Adamson University in starting the next school year in August. Ateneo De Manila University is also pushing with the new schedule but not until 2015. The universities said the change in academic calendar should help them align with schools in other Asian countries and help their students develop global outlook and competencies.
