Tropical Storm Basyang is shown moving west at 201 Km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte with maximum winds of 85 Kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 Kph in this enhanced satellite image from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) as of 4pm of Jan. 31, 2014. PAG-ASA yesterday raised public storm warnings in 34 areas around the country as Basyang intensified into a tropical storm as it moved toward the Southern Leyte and Surigao del Norte areas. Public storm warning Signal No. 2 was raised over ilo-ilo, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Siquijor, Guimaras, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran Island, Camotes Island, Camiguin, Dinagat Province, Surigao del Norte, Siargao Island and Northern parts of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Norte. Winds ranging from 61 to 100 Kph may be expected in these areas in at least 24 hours. Place under the storm Signal No. 1 are Masbate, Palawan, Calamian Group of Islands, Northern Samar, Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, rest of Agusan del Norte, rest of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, northern part of Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte and Zamboanga del Norte. Winds ranging from 30 to 60 Kph are expected in these areas in the next 36 hours. Basyang is expected to move west at 33 kph and is forecast to be 116 Km North East of Puerto Princesa City this afternoon and 529 Km West North West of Puerto Princesa City or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility Sunday afternoon. PAG-ASA estimates 5 to 15 mm per hour rainfall within the 400 Km diameter of the Tropical Storm.
