A woman lawmaker is calling on Congress to review the Philippine AIDS Prevention Control Act of 1998 or Republic Act 8504 citing its "weak implementation" as a factor to the increasing incidence of the killer disease in the Philippines. The Dept. of Health's Philippine HIV and AIDS registry recorded a total of 491 HIV AIDS cases in October 2013 or 66% higher than the 295 cases in October 2012, making it the highest ever recorded in a month in the country. Ilagan is asking the DOH to ensure that health centers have the necessary supplies, including the much needed retovirals. At present there's already a bill filed at the House pushing for the establishment of a national HIV and AIDS program. In July this year there were 449 reported HIV cases with one new Pilipino getting infected with virus every 1 hr. and 25 mins. ususally MSM.
