Protesters want to reach outside the offices of the Golden Dawn in Mesogeion Avenue - Many roads closed in central Athens
Incidents took place moments ago near the offices of the Golden Dawn in Mesogeion Avenue between police and protesters participating in a large antifascist rally.
Shortly after 8 pm the Hellenic Police used chemicals and stun grenades and tried to prevent the demonstrators from approaching the offices of the far-right party.
Citizen participation is massive and estimated at 10,000 people, while at this point the demonstration which began shortly after 6:30 pm has passed the junction of Mesogeion and Ilidos str.
Apart from Mesogeion Avenue at the height of Katechaki, are also Panepistimiou, Stadiou, Amalias and Vas. Sofias are also closed while earlier today Police closed the Syntagma, Evangelismos and Katechaki metro stations.
“Fascism never again,” “Pavlos lives, beat the Nazis” are some of the slogans heard in the rally, while at Syntagma square, where the vast protest began, remain about 1,000 people.
