Filipino-Greek Former Wrestler to Star in a Major Motion Film.

Another reason to be proud of the Filipino and Greek heritage. Greek-Filipino wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista (also known as “Batista”) will play the role of Drax the Destroyer in the Disney/Marvel Studios-produced action/adventure sci-fi. The movie will hit theaters of the summer 2014. It is based on the Marvel comic, “Guardians of the Galaxy”. Drax the Destroyer was a human who was killed and resurrected with a mission: to kill super villain Thanos. The character of Thanos is based on Greek mythology, deriving from “Thanatos,” the personification of death and mortality. It was also announced at Comic-Con that Thanos will appear in the film, though no word yet on who will play the role. Bautista, whose mother is Greek and father is Filipino, sports a tattoo on his arm with both Filipino and GReek flags side-by-side. At the press conference for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the former world wrestler said that he was ecstatic when he learned he was cast as Drax. The movie is directed by James Gunn. Other casts are Benicio Del Toro, Chris Pratt, Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close.
